About Amanda
Amanda is a social scientist who studies coastal resilience, transformative adaptation, and environmental justice at the EqualSea lab located at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
Amanda has seven years of U.S. federal agency expertise evaluating the impacts of coastal hazards and creating guidelines for effective decision support. She began her career as a fisheries anthropologist working for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Southeast Fisheries Science Center (NOAA SEFSC) and continued her civil service as a Pathways Intern at the U.S. Geological Survey’s Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center. In 2025, Amanda worked as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Delaware's Disaster Research Center, supervised by A.R. Siders, where she served as the Director of Practitioner Engagement for The Coastal Hazards, Equity, Economic prosperity, and Resilience (CHEER) Hub.
Amanda has an interdisciplinary background and holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies with an Emphasis in Coastal Science & Policy from the University of Santa Cruz, California, a M.S. in Marine Ecosystems and Society from the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, and a B.A. in English and Marine Biology from Tulane University.
